A fellow kin-member was banned yesterday (whilst being in a ToO raid with his Alliance at the time) for his player name. He has had this name since beta (Feanaro) and already had a conversation with a GM before about the name (about 6 months ago) and the GM vited in his favour are set his name back and stated that he would make a note on the account to ensure the issue did not rise again.

The request to change the name is understandable if they really feel strongly about it but the instant ban seems very strong, with neither information, consultation or notice!

whats the reason for a ban of Feanaro? I don't see it as offensive or lore breaking (just did a google search and came up with some blogs and some dogs

if they do this for Feanaro, then they really have a heavy bias, one guy I know is called albidead and I'm suprised he hasn't been reported

Before or after Codies, the enforcement of the naming rules has always been somewhat erratic and, seemingly, more dependent on the volume of complaints than upon actual adherence to the published rules. I've seen Feanaro around often enough. In all honesty, given that someone in your thread has posted the lore involved, I can't feel too much sympathy over being done for his name. Being banned, that's another matter! But Urine are a law unto themselves, and one without right of appeal, I'm afraid.

I will also say that the attitude of one or two people in that thread absolutely stinks. But don't call them fanbois because you'll pick up an infraction whilst they, despite the abusive nature of their posting, will not. Hell, you can't anyway. Looks like the thread has been taken down; no surprises there. Typical forum "moderation" from them. Except they wouldn't be able to find moderate if you gave them a map!

It is the banning that everyone including Fean are really annoyed about. Fean feels that if the name change is justified (which it seems now from the extract from the Silmarilion Indexes) then he would change it. However, no-one understands the 'Judge, Jury and Executioner' type treatment.

His alliance had to abandon the ToO run they were in (it simply fell apart after his account was immediately and suddenly banned).

It does not suprise me that they took down that thread. Same as thy did on Facebook!
Just wonder how long they will wait before they 'come after' those of us that supported him on there (also lifers and from beta).

I have a simple remedy for that - I don't go near the cesspit that is the Urine forum. I know damn well that Li'l Ricky (AKA UnSapient) knows who I am. I know damn well that he spies on other forums such as LOTROCommunity, where I have been active and less than enthusiastic about him & them. I know damn well if I give them an excuse, he will jump on me at the first opportunity he gets. So I don't visit the forum, I don't say anything in public channels in-game, etc. As for him, he is an insignificant polyp on the anus of humanity. Which is to say that he spends his life covered in excrement!

I also noted some of my Kin say last night that they don't go on or comment of the forums. Seems they are subject to hacking and not the game itself (so was stated).
I never used it myself really. Only started recently for the lotteries and to make comment (objection) for this treatment of a friend and kinsman.

In contrast, once back after the ban; Feanaro has now been renamed to Feanaur and Feanaro is now an illegal name. (which is the same translation so in essence the same name).
Someone immediately took the name for an alt after Fean was banned and renamed. That account was then banned also. From what i am hearing this has been happening a lot... folks reporting names and then stealing them as soon as they are available!

The in-game GMs were extremely sorry and kept constantly apologizing to Fean!
He was compensated with TPs and the free rename to Feanaur.

Still does not justify any harsh and needless ban type treatment!
But I think he is feeling a bit better now :-)

Well, that's better news, although I would have have thought that the new name was a rather a sound-alike for Feanor, and therefore also in breach of... well Codies rules, anyway. I'm never quite sure to what extent Turbine's differ. The alleged name-stealing doesn't come as a surprise. This is the internet after all. One presumes that the GMs can get hold of enough information to work out whether there is a enough evidence to connect the new alt with whoever made the complaint(s). Though whether they bother is another matter.

As for the security, oh lordy, yes! That created the most enormous stink. Not just because of the fact that it happened; there was also the way it happened, how word came out about it, how mention of it on their forums was dealt, and the general way they lied, denied & weaselled about it. And yes, people had their accounts stolen & all sorts. If you want to read up about it, have a hunt around LOTROCommunity, where Turbine does not have censorship rights!
