Any of you techy bods out there know if Windows 7 is any good....should I (for example) download the RC client?
I have heard on one review that it has made no changes in terms of how Windows handles games or game graphics...so seems a bit pointless

I for one have found hat Windows 7 is a significant performance increase for me. Apart from the drivers being in beta still, Windows 7 is very good.

Tried running Windows 7 RC on a virtual machine and it is incredibly slow, to the point where I can't be bothered to even see what it can do. Of course that is probably in part due to the resources given to the virtual machine.
If I ever get really bored at work I might try putting it on a spare PC sometime, but not in any great hurry.

I've been trying it out on my laptop and I like it alot. I've never tried Vista on one of my own computers so there's alot of changes (being used to XP) for me.... When I reinstall the OS on my main computer I'll give win7 a go for sure...
It's hard to tell you what makes it so good so I can only recommend you get the RC and install it on a second computer (if you have one)..
I have been runnign windows 7 beta for a while now and the first thing I noticed was I get about 5-10fps more in Lotro!
The system is much faster than vista on my old computer. Dont take that much resources of the computer. I havnt downloaded RC yet but from my colleagues i heard that is has some more bug fixed, even though I havnt had any with beta.
I did had some crashes before in XP and vista but havnt had any so far in windows 7
I will definetly get it when it is released!
Cheers

From what I've heard, what Rhy said. I've never shifted from XP though.

Performance comparisons vista vs win7:

With ATI already showing better performance on average in Win7, and Nvidia catching up quickly, we're very encouraged. It looks quite possible that a gamer that upgrades from Vista to Win7, without even changing hardware, will get a free framerate boost in most popular games. For an operating system that adds quite a lot of new features, that's not too shabby.
Not sure what it means to people running XP... But if it doesnt get better at least you get access to DX10 graphics...
Got my pre-order copy for £44.99 from Currys the other day.
Everything I have read about it says that it is the OS Vista should have been.
Significantly smaller footprint than Vista.
When it is launched there will be a flood of new drivers so I would not worry about that.
Haven't had a chance to try the RC version yet as I am still building my new rig.

Im running on Win 7 since rc came out. Upgraded from Vista and Lotro got upped 10-20 fps by doing so :)
I havent had one single bsod in Win7, only problem I had was that I had to reinstall my sound drivers manualy after to get TS to work.
Overall if you are used to Vista, basicaly everything has been better if you ask me :)
Definately gonna buy it after it has been released.

Why wait until it is released if you pre-order now you get it for about 1/2 price and with most companies selling it, Amazon, Currys, Dixons etc you don't have to pay for it until it is released in October.
