The Rules
Preamble: Unless contradicted by anything below, the normal RRU raid rules apply.
1) This is not first come, first served. I am an inexperienced raid leader & will therefore be selecting who comes along with my needs in mind.
2) It was agreed with Rhy that, initially at least, the "Off-" raids would be a kin led effort i.e. by Nimminas. You can expect to see a heavy presence on my side of the run. This makes my life easier (see 1 above).
3) Expect to die more & suceed less! No, I am not joking - see various points below.
4) Rhy is not leading this, nor is Joerg. I am. Rhy (along as Melagil) can de-brief me afterwards; he will not be interfering in the run, so do not look to him for orders. I, with Tarinas / Derigar as chief lieutenant, will be giving the instructions.
5) You can sign up for the Balrog only, but you will be strictly a reserve. I am not dropping someone who helped clear on the first two days in favour of someone that didn't.
6) I do not like hanging around waiting. Please be courteous to everyone else by being on-time (note the slightly later start time). See also 7 below.
7) I am perfectly willing to experiment. This may mean trying out new tactics, going in with an unbalanced or short group, inexperienced raiders, or whatever. We ought to be good enough to cope.
8) I have a boot & I'm perfectly willing to use it. I would rather be under-strength than have to put up with an idiot that doesn't listen or an incompetent that can't play or learn. Either is more likely to wipe the entire group than being 1 or 2 short. If the Balrog can be done with 6 (allegedly), anything else can be dealt with too.
9) The Off-raid is, essentially, a training ground. If things go wrong, they go wrong. We've all got cash to spare for repairs, so don't whinge. I've killed the Balrog 5 times running, so I don't care particularly if delays on earlier sections mean we don't get to him. That's life (or death, as the case may be...). Speaking of delays, be aware that on days 2 or 3, you may be starting from somewhere in the previous day's schedule!
10) I've 20 years more practice at being a complete bastard than Rhy has. You would be unwise to forget this! ;)

This run will go down in history as the "run of the alts". (which I very much like, as it will give players the insight into the other classes they are not that familiar with in a difficult environment like the Rift)

Every run is The Run Of The Alts as far as I'm concerned! I'm sure not even Rufus has managed to Raid each day with a different alt. Can you get all 5 through in one Run? Hmmmm... It's only a matter of time before I get asked to switch halfway through a day... ;)

Just remember when it all goes pear-shaped, you can complain as loudly as you want to my Lieutenant. Cos he won't bother to pass it on, & I wouldn't listen anyway. I'd be too busy planning my reve... ahem! The Return Of The Run Of The Alts! :lol:

More seriously, yes you do need to try this with different classes. I have a suspicion that one of the reasons we're pretty succesful is because all of the raid leaders are currently Hunters. Hunters are mostly single task (shoot it) johnnies who are stood well back from the melee & have a clear screen (eagles aside!). I probably won't be Elnar - this is going to be a different experience for you all, for that reason alone.

Interesting point Raed.... I think it is certainly easier for us "stand at the back" types

However one of my first experiences in Raids was with Gnarbyrt (who I know lots of you know) a Guardian and he was an excellent leader...abliet of the bludgeon everything in sight variety :)

and the ability not to panic when it goes to shit.....(eg when forgetting to clear an entire half of a room :+ )

I guess Knowledge will go in the new areas...and then I'm screwed as I'm not a "technical player"

As far as i'm concerned, to be a good leader you need the following

- To know what everyone needs to be doing at any one stage
- To be observing the entire state of the battle (tanking boss, stunning adds, wound/fear effects, minstrels with agro, etc)
- To shift the blame to Rhy or Raed as applicable for all the mistakes.

Just a reference point for new members. If all goes according to plan, this is when we will be encountering each gem, so you can decide which gem you want to roll for based on the day(s) you are coming along

Friday - boots(x2), gloves, leggings
Saturday - chest, helmet
Sunday - shoulders, weapon/shield

Of course note that we only let people who have the first 5 gems (or 5 pieces of the hele set if i recall correctly) to roll on the sunday gems

I can now fill the raid so anyone that isn't in Red may be asked to stand down, & anyone who is signing up from now on is probably going to find themselves a maybe. Sorry in advance, but you know how it goes. It looks like the group is going to have an...unusual balance, anyways! Preference is likely to be given to people that make more than one day, be warned. The reason for this is that I am really going to treat this a training exercise this time.

What we definitely have so far is A new Raid Leader, probably going in with the "wrong" class (given that LM, CHM, & MNS are all covered)[/*:m:37dg3t6u] A lot of otherwise experienced players going in with their alts for the first time[/*:m:37dg3t6u] A couple of first-timers, & a couple more inexperienced[/*:m:37dg3t6u] A lot of stuff & new tactics to work on.[/*:m:37dg3t6u]
I figure we might as well do the whole lot at once. It may not be entirely successful, but it ought to be fun; and let's face it - we'll all learn more from cocking it up, than we will by messily but successfully butchering our way through in the normal fashion. I'll be posting a new thread sometime in the next few days, probably titled something like The Raid Training Guide (& in the Guides forum, obviously). It'll cover most of the things I will be looking to get people thinking about & working on in the actul raid itself, but it is intended as a pointer for general improvement, not necessarily specifically for the Rift. Feel free to add suggestions - I'm sure there are plenty of you with good ideas to contribute. So do so, & don't just rely on Raid Leaders to do your thinking for you!

Please make sure you read that BEFORE turning up on Monday, otherwise I'll have to talk at you for 15 minutes & no-one will enjoy that, least of all me! After Monday's effort I'll post, in the Chat forum, a feedback thread where you can offer thoughts on how things went & what have you...

That's exactly my plan, Hal. You will be in my side with Tari, so he can keep an eye on / cover you. He will otherwise have a free role, with the proviso that he starts every fight in War-Speech. What happens thereafter is in the lap of the Valar! Anyway, that's anticipating things. Suffice it to say, your Leader Has A Plan (it may yet turn out to be A Shit Plan, who knows!), so have a little faith (in what is another matter...).

Well the second hunter was signed up and on Teamspeak at 20.30 Dutch time. Only to hear Read asking someone else to go on his alt, and be the second hunter. After I said to the raidleader I am on teamspeak, signed up for gems and all he waves me away with words like: Thank you for your time etc etc.

This is prety enoying when you come from work earlier to be online for a nice run.

I think the point was that the other person was confirmed a slot on the front page and we would have run with any random assortment of characters rather than a specific class distribution. If people who were signed up have alts that would fit the group better, then great, otherwise we make do with what we have, i don't think Raed was ever going to kick a member out who was confirmed a slot just to get a slightly more ideal character, as he is quite keen on experiementing with the tactics and getting us all killed

Edhellil, read the rules. Especially, read the rules on MY Rift runs. It is definitely not first come, first served on my runs (& that's only ever a guideline at best). It is the raid leader's choice who he takes. I'd stated a preference for those people who could be along on all 3 days, & you weren't there Monday, whilst the Hunter, Mundgo, had been (Mirkul, his alt, having been taken in to the w/e run for the benefit of RRU & picked up locks, making him ineligible for that day). I hadn't heard you the first time you asked on TS. I'd heard someone say something but didn't know who, asked for a name & didn't hear a reply. It was only several minutes later when you asked again that I realised who it was, thought about changing things & decided, on balance, that it would be better to stick with the group that was already familiar with everything that was going on. You were never a confirmed member on any day of the run, either, having signed up relatively late & less than definitely ("If this... if that...").

I can certainly give you at least another 3 or 4 reasons why I didn't take you, if you really want me to list them. The simplest thing to say, though, is that the quickest way to piss off any raid leader is to moan at them about being left out!
