I guess Ill make a guide for this instance later on. But for now Im only making this thread to show some tacts for the 2nd boss via a picture I made.

These are the lightning patterns from the second phase on the Second boss in Sammath Gul. They might not be 100% correct as I only noted this from our last try at the boss, the other trys we were just trying to figure out what the hell was insta killing us.

They come in order it seems, patter 1, 2, 3, 4 and then 1 again... Note in this phase the boss will not move, so we have to go in melee when we know its safe, as you learn the patterns you know when you can get in close. Patter 2 seem to be the most fatal one as it spreads out all over the place, safest place here seems to be far to the back as the distance between lightning skrikes are wider here. All the patters start up at the throne of the boss.

Safe spot is in the north corner of the west wall, everyone should ball up here. The thing that really saves your ass is a RK with a lightning rune who uses Do Not Fall to Lightning, this mitigates the lightning strikes 100%. You need ranged classes to burn the boss down the final 50% of morale. Here you really need a LM or Burg to give power to the ranged people.

One, since it's not a guide, I've moved it alongside Hirion's similar post in the Mirkwood forum. Two, if it's nothing but a spoiler, then remember to use the Spoiler tag on the title, please! ;)

Thank you very much for putting this to paper, Io! Was great fun getting the first peek of the place last night / this morning, but I think this will help a bundle in cracking that second boss.

Thought it was enough with the spoilers in a spoiler wrap, but ok this works. And I thought I'd work further on this later and expand it into a full guide, but we'll see.

The best of position is for healer on the left of the boss and ALL fellowship on the right !

This is my position after the try runs make tonight with Hirion & Co. :D

We had a very intersting experience in there on Monday night.

During the 3rd boss fight (trying to do Hard Mode) we wiped when he had about 30K left.

However as the last person died we got a message saying the he had died and that the gates had opened (to the 4th boss)

We decided after rezing to go and kill the 4th boss first (yes yes.... I'm aware this might technically be classed as an exploit....sue me!!)

We did so (one person getting a very nice ring) and then came back to tackle the 3rd boss. We were actually unsuccessful...but mainly that's cus it was 2.00am by then!!

Didn't have that happen to us, not even when we had him down to 20k and wiped.

Went back there last night and finally got down Goruthul (with our guardian being the only one still standing and at less than 1k morale) - after that the 4th and last boss was an interesting fight but also a walkover. We did not get the ring, nor the token to craft Second Agers, but we did get something interesting - a heavy radiance gauntlet with more radiance (+25) than any other non-Barad Guldur raid piece.

The whole thread is marked a spoiler so won't hassle with spoiler-code.

hey that was on the first boss actually! on the third one - hm you and me were dead I believe, the rest was still standing! Oh and don't forget the 'interesting' fact that the second boss for some reason healed to full health after he went back to his platform ....

Done SG with PUGs many times, but when I lead our kin run seems I missunderstand first phase of second boss (Alagossir). What's the trick there? It looks like knockbacks killing us all the time

All needs to be close to him or he will shout out your name. If not that person get close, the boss will do a high damage on that one.

Also when he knocks ppl back, he wipes aggro of the tank.

Since you dont want to be knocked over the edge I usually pull the boss down to middle of room to have more space.

How to avoid knockbacks? We tryed all to stood on his toes, and many different things but no luck

I've been doing (With T being tank), so that only one person is in the frontal AoE; so that those behind him will not be tossed far enough to get over; while the tank, due to the wall, doens't move at all and can rebuild agro while to rest runs in (since his threat is wiped by the kick).

I found it better for everyone that can stay in range to actually stay in range untill he shouts your name. Then you just run into melee with the boss and you won't get hit. This way everyone can avoid his normal (frontal?) aoe attacks. Ofcourse you will need a focussed group if you do it like this.

Just did a Sammath Gūl run last night, this one with a warden for the first time, and have to post what wonders the warden way of generating threat does on the Gorothul fight. I know you're currently discussing the second boss, but this just had to be recommended for future runs.

Not that it can't be done with a guardian, but at least don't hesitate using a warden either - some silly people, including a warden himself (!), have been slacking it out on the CodeMaster forums that wardens cannot be main tanks, and this place, among others, really proves them wrong.

I believe that even in the last phases of that fight the minstrel never had more than on enemy pestering him. He had no need for using Still as Death to reset agro, nor did we ever need to do a root and move to keep him healing. Good stuff. :)
